Synopsis: I’m a freak for on
screen chemistry so when I saw the video You Are The
Music In Me for HSM2, I was instantly hooked by the uncontrollable sparks that
flew between Troy and Gabriella. This
led to the desire to look further into the song and their emotions during it.
In the very beginning of the video, Troy looked upset to me.
Almost as though he had just had a spat with someone.
(If you haven’t seen the video, then you should go to http://disney.go.com/dxd/
and watch it.) He was very tentative when the music first started, and he
almost looked as though he was going through his own private little battle.
That’s my interpretation anyway, and it made me want to write about it. I
probably didn’t get all the words to the song right, but let’s just call it
artistic license. I hope you enjoy my story and most of all….Happy Reading!!!
You Are The Music In Me
Troy stood at the end of
the piano with his arms crossed and his back to both Kelsi and Gabriella. There
was only one way to solve the issue at hand, it was time for the Playmaker to
take action...
She was thoroughly proud of this song, as she based it upon her
two friend’s romance. Kelsi had sat on the sidelines for a year and a half,
watching Troy and Gabriella fall
deeper and deeper in love, yet they had never said it out loud. Maybe, she
thought, they could say it with music.
“Nah, nah, nah, nah. Nah, nah, nah, nah, yeah...” Kelsi sang her new
song for Gabriella, with a big smile on her face. Troy was
attempting to be upset, but Kelsi knew the way to get him out of his foul mood,
was with music. Smiling up at Gabriella, Kelsi sent a secret message to her, in
a way that only girls could understand. Troy Bolton didn’t have a chance at
staying angry. Kelsi continued to sing in a somewhat timid voice, hoping that Troy and Gabby would
soon take over. “You are the music in
me.”
Kelsi looked at Troy’s back and pushed
the sheet music, lying on top of the piano, towards Gabriella. “You know the words. Once
upon a time.”
As Troy continued to stand
with his back to the duo, he tried not to be distracted by the contagious
melody coming from behind him. He listened to Kelsi’s singing, and simply
couldn’t help himself. He was curious about this new song she had written for
him and Gabriella, and there was no reason why he shouldn’t check it out.
The Playmaker’s plan was working all too well and Kelsi knew it.
She gave Troy a quick smile and
continued singing, “make you listen.
There’s a reason.”
Troy dropped his hands
and walked towards the girls, thinking that he’d just give the song a quick
look. He glance over Gabriella’s shoulder and looked down at the sheet music.
The song had a haunting quality to it, but he was still a little upset about
the incident earlier. However, the combination of his love of music and the
harmonies Gabriella and Kelsi were producing, were too much for him to handle.
“When you dream,
there’s a chance you’ll find, a little laughter...” Gabriella looked up
at him and continued singing, but this time he felt like she was singing the
song directly to him, “or happy ever
after.”
With a deep breath, he looked down at the music and gave into
the need that was gnawing inside of him.
“Your harmony to the
melody,” the three of them sang together, but to Troy and Gabriella no
one else existed. In one split second
the whole world disappeared.
“It’s echoing inside
my head.” Kelsi gradually stopped singing and let the pair do what they
do best…sing.
“A single voice, above
the noise, and like a common thread,” Gabriella couldn’t help but smile up at Troy as she continued to
sing, but when he looked into her eyes, and sang to her as though she were the
love of his life, her heart skipped a beat.
With as much tenderness as he could find in his heart, Troy leaned his head
down within a breath to Gabriella’s and sang, “Hmmm, you’re pullin’ me.”
The tempo of the song began to pick up and the twosome continued
to sing, “When I hear my favorite song, I
know that we belong. Oh, you are the music in me.”
Troy walked behind
Kelsi, as she enthusiastically accompanied the duo on the piano, and offered
his hand to Gabriella. “It’s living in all of us, and it’s brought
us here because…”
Lifting her hand, Gabriella held onto Troy’s. “You are the music in me.”
The two of them beamed at one another as they sang in harmony, “Nah, nah, nah, nah. Nah,
nah, nah, nah, yeah.”
The joyous melody had completely changed Troy’s mood, “Yeah, yeah, yeah.”
When Gabriella’s voice joined his,” you are
the music in me,” electricity seemed to fill the air. Their fingers
entwined of their own accord as their hands floated upwards.
As the music continued, they both realized the words they were
singing, could’ve come from their own thoughts. The lyrics Kelsi wrote for them
seemed to describe every emotion they had felt for one another. It was scary, yet exhilarating, opening up
your heart so much, but to know the other person felt the very same way was
truly extraordinary and nothing short of miraculous.
Gabriella confessed, in music to him, “It’s like I knew you before we met.” Instantly thinking to
herself, like kindergarten.
Troy answered her with a
reply that told her the very same thing. “Before we met.”
“Can’t explain it.”
“Uh Huh.”
“There’s no name for
it.”
“No name for it.”
They told one another, in harmony, “I’m saying words I’ve never said.”
Troy’s heart had never
felt so exposed, but he didn’t care, he just wanted to let Gabby know how
wonderful loving her was to him. The power and conviction in his voice came
from his very core,” and it was easy,
because you see the real me.” No one
had ever made him feel so at ease with himself like Gabriella had.
She watched Troy put his hand over
his heart as they sang, “As I am. You understand,
and that’s more than I’ve ever known,” and the feelings within her,
continued to flow free. “To hear your
voice above the noise, and know I’m not alone. Oh you’re singing to me.”
They moved to the music’s beat letting it rule their every
movement. “When I hear my favorite song,
I know that we belong. You are the music in me.”
Gabriella moved around the piano, never once taking her eyes off
of Troy, as he lied across the top of it. “It's living in all of us…”
He looked up, into Gabriella’s eyes and lifted his hands. With
one hand he brushed her arm and with the other he gently caressed the black
skeins of hair that hung down. Cradling her cheek in his hand, “…and it's brought us here because, you are
the music in me,” Troy basked in her
beauty.
The composition swelled as Troy hopped off of the
piano and faced Gabriella from the opposite side of the instrument. The
strength of the music grounded them in place as they took a stance and simply
sang their hearts out to each other.
Telling one another how strong the feelings they had were seemed to be a
necessity. “Together we gonna see. We got
the power to say what we feel. To making it real, and keep it all inside. Oh
Yeah….”
“Nah, nah, nah,
nah.”
“Oh yeah, yeah,
yeah.”
“Nah, nah, nah,
nah.”
“You are the music
in me.”
They danced their way around Kelsi, never once noticing the group of people
that heard them singing from down the hall. Their friends bopped into the room,
moving to the beat of the song, and stood around the piano joining in on the
catchy tune.
Troy and Gabriella
continued to sing and dance their way around the baby grand oblivious to their
surroundings. “Nah,
nah, nah, nah. Oh yeah. Nah,
nah, nah, nah. Oh yeah. You are the music in me. When
I hear my favorite song, I know that we belong. Oh you are the music in me.”
Troy held Gabriella by
the waist and lifted her effortlessly onto the piano as she sang, “Oh yeah. Oh yeah.”
He leaned his back up against her and just let the melody take over.
Their smiles radiated glee and their spirits soared throughout
the room. “When I hear my favorite song,
I know that we belong. Oh you are the music in me.”
“It’s living in all
of us,”
Troy lifted Gabriella up and held onto her waist, slowly placing her down on
the ground, they began to sway to the music. “It’s brought us here because; you are the music in me.”
Their group of friends continued to harmonize in the background, “Nah, nah, nah, nah,” as Troy and Gabriella
danced with their arms around each other.
“Uh huh. Oh yeah.” Gabriella’s arms
settled around Troy’s neck as his
fingers gripped her waist.
Turning in a circle, the song coming to an end, it was time for
them to sing their final, I love you to one another,” You are the music in me.” Their hearts were beating frantically,
as the air expelled from their bodies.
With eyes locked, foreheads resting against one another’s, and
the tips of their noses brushing gently against each others, Troy looked deeply into
Gabriella’s eyes and sang softly, “Yeah.” All of the anger and frustration that filled
him earlier has dissipated, and all that was left was the feeling of utter
bliss.
Gabriella smiled at Troy as she watched him
try to control his emotions. The entire time they had been dating, she had
never felt such intimacy as she did in that moment. It amazed her that she could feel the way she
did. Yes, loving Troy was a joy, but
being loved by him was a gift.
Their friends hooted and hollered for the duo’s interpretation
of Kelsi’s newest creation and although Troy and Gabriella
appreciated the applause, they were disappointed there were so many people
occupying their space. Giving each other one final look, a look that promised
they would continue this ‘conversation’ when they were alone; they headed over
to their friends to congratulate Kelsi on her newest achievement.
Just as they came to the corner of the piano, Kelsi gave Troy a knowing look, as
if to say, I new you couldn’t stay mad. He thanked her with his smile, while
silently taking Gabriella’s hand in his own. He squeezed it just enough to get
her attention and told her with the look on his face, you really are the music
in me Gabby. I love you.
With a duck of her head, and a blush to her cheek, Gabriella’s
lips lifted in a way that told him, me too.
